New York has been left reeling from the domination of Fashion Week A/W 2013-14. From hair salons demanding last minute hair models to ‘test and time’ their Fashion Week creations, to not being able to go just about anywhere without bumping into a celebrity of some form, the city was en pointe as fashion capital.
Also en pointe was the collections being presented by all the designers. In February it feels a little bizarre to be excited about wearing clothing for the autumn but I can safely say most people are following last week’s fabulous fashion, myself included. Here are the main reasons why: Phillip Lim, Victoria Beckham Derek Lam, Tibi, DVF and The Row – to name but a few.
These collections have all seen the designers surpass themselves from previous seasons with multi-layering, texturing, experimental colour and styling to a dramatic and exciting effect.
I had the added bonus this Fashion Week to work at ‘The Row’ (the ultra-luxury label designed by Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen) for their buyer presentations. This gave me the opportunity to witness the new season styles up close and personal. They are every bit as gorgeous in person as they look on the catwalk.
My only issue of this fashion week is that the kitten heel has seemingly made a come back with Victoria Beckham and The Row both shying from the usual skyscraper heel. While I am sure the smaller heel has the plus side of being more comfortable I can’t quite bring myself to embrace that particular trend. Luckily we have until Autumn to bring ourselves to terms with the possibility of seeing Victoria Beckham, let alone ourselves, in a kitten heel…
